Doesn't the White Flower Farm catalog signal the coming of spring? It always did when we were kids. There was something about seeing it in the mailbox that made us think past the rainy California winter. It seems absolutely perfect that the front page of their website declares The Promise of Spring. If we were real gardeners, months ago we would have spent an afternoon with a cup of tea and the White Flower Farm catalog. And so we are bulb-less, as well as plant-less, at this point. With White Flower Farm, that won't be the case for very long. White Flower Farm is a family-owned mail-order nursery located in northwestern Connecticut. Since 1950 they've been providing a wide range of ornamental and edible plants, plus tools, supplies, and gardening advice, to gardeners throughout the United States. You can browse their catalog online, or lose hours looking at their extensive online selection. We're thinking that having tools, fertilizer, trellises, pots, flowers, plants, and trees delivered right to our door sounds pretty good. White Flower Farm also provides horticultural advice, and a money-back guarantee, which is definitely good news for those of us without green thumbs.
This is actually quite hard to pull off if you've actually given it a try, but if you're like Swedish interior designer Marie Olsson Nylander, you take any task given quite seriously. Like we said, no task is impossible if you put your mind to it. That and you also need to consider how to pull off modern amenities without making it seem like so. Like we always say, 'When going big, you can't hold back.' As for the desk, a pair of simple all-in-one PCs is a reasonable choice since it cuts down on clutter and the built-in speakers eliminate the need for external speakers. We personally would have gone for a completely wireless system with the keyboard and mouse, but we understand there's really nowhere to tuck it away unless you grab one of those fancy vintage fold-out secretary desks, in which care wireless still wouldn't matter much. All in all, it's hard to pull off such a look, but if you've already got the Unplggd mentality with carefully hiding away those wires and decluttering as a habit, you're well on your way there and you may not even know it! What do you guys think? What's it take to pull off the ultimate vintage-eclectic home office?
We love sharing real life room makeovers because they are such a wonderful source of inspiration. Many of the makeovers we highlight involve renovations from the ground up, but for those of us who rent, it is always great to find a project that doesn't involve any structural changes. This master bedroom makeover demonstrates the impact a few well-planned changes can have on any room. Sarah of Thrifty Decor Chick has long been struggling with a bed that just didn't measure up to her expectations. After a careful assessment of the problems, she set out to transform her space with new bedding, making careful choices from start to finish. Though Sarah's old bedding was lovely,Sarah wanted a change and the new bedding is both beautiful and functional. By gradually assembling a collection of pieces from a variety of sources, Sarah created a unique look that captures her personality and sets the tone for her bedroom. Thanks for sharing Sarah - we'll be keeping an eye out for Part Two!
Chicago really is all about amazing architecture , and this annual event gives you the chance to tour with professionals for free. On May 19-21, free tours take place all over the city, allowing design hounds to learn more about their passion and garner ideas for their own spaces. Tickets are available on a first-come/first-served basis on the mornings of the tours, but a selection of the tours have tickets available online now, which can save you from the hassle and possible disappointment on the days of the event. We are going on two tours, one of Zola Zoka's award winning House of the Year and one of Mies's IIT campus led by the professor of Architectural History at IIT. Other options that sound fun: Robie House, Modern Houses in Old Town, Alta Vista Terrace, Modern Bucktown, and the Sheffield Historic District. There are also some drop-in, self-guided interior tours associated with the Great Chicago Spaces and Places event that do not require tickets, some of which are not normally open to the public.

Modern Seed is stepping into the furniture world with their first piece called the Scando Family Table by designer Eric Pfeiffer. The Table is made for both kids and adults, its style inspired from 'Japanese living and watching how children relate to the floor in their daily activities'. These are classic, basic sofas, available from well-known sources, that can fit into a variety of decorating styles.... Crate and Barrel's one of our favorite sources for well-priced sofas; they even have a category on their website for sofas under $999. We like that many of their sofas are eco-friendly with frames made from sustainable, kiln-dried hardwood and and cushions from soy-based polyfoam. The Camden Sofa, with its references to mid-century design, is well-priced at $899. The Troy Sofa is a classic loose cushion sofa. We could only be so fortunate to have a mom like Unplggd reader, Ricardo Fay, whose artistic mother painted these Apple-themed wall art to adorn his home office space and bedroom. Iconic, colourful, fun and obviously advertising your computing allegiance with pride. Any similar Windows/PC decorative wall art out there?
Now appraisals are trendy and even entertaining, as evidenced by the pop culture hit Antiques Roadshow. Finding a respectable appraiser and getting an accurate appraisal is serious business. The Appraiser There is no legal licensing for appraisers, but there are different levels of certification that can be obtained through two trade organizations Appraisers Association of America and American Society of Appraisers. The appraiser of goods should not be the buyer or seller of goods. If you need the skills of a specialist appraiser, the hourly rate can get much higher. It's important your appraiser knows the reason for the appraisal, like whether you want to sell something or insure it or donate it to charity. The written appraisal should follow the industry-standard guidelines outlined by the Appraisers Association of America.
