What inspired you? The elegant and sexy design of the Apple Imac inspired me. Since the computer is very compact-all-in-one, I wanted to produce a minimal and clean work surface. I only had a small space to work with in the bedroom, so I decided to use the Elfa system to create shelving on top and a computer work desk on bottom. The Elfa system is easily adaptive and economical. I could custom size the computer shelf and elevate it to hide the keyboard underneath. The work area feels brighter and less cramped as it overlooks the entryway. As a lighting aficionado, I wanted various lighting options: overhead lighting on dimmers, desktop lighting and under the desk lighting. Great Tip: Find out what is behind the walls before you do any drilling! I found out the wall covered up pipes, and I needed to be very careful where I drilled.
Need a new door? Check this one out: it's a 60's black vintage wood door with a gold geometric veneer pattern positioned to the left. Even if you don't need a door, it could be used as a screen, a headboard, or even a room divider. Priced at $60. More good stuff after the jump.... Thank Craig!

Q: I just moved into a home filled with beautiful, original dark wood molding. I'm itching to paint my dining room in a dark moody color like charcoal or even black. Have you ever seen this successfully done? Can you go dark with dark molding? Editor: What do you think about dark paint with dark wood molding? Share your thoughts and suggestions with Kim in the comments below....thanks! Got a question? Email yours with pic attachments here.

There's just something about these colorful chairs located in front of a restaurant in Soho that called out to us. We really like the funky little legs and feet, and the peeling paint - and we imagine that if we found similar ones at, say, Alameda, they'd make a great little perch outside our front door for us to set down bags while we juggle keys, our dog, etc.
Choosing your plants carefully when you design your garden can eliminate the need for any chemicals to keep it growing and thriving. By understanding specific qualities of all of your plants you can create a garden that can thrive under almost any conditions. The folks over at Pools Spas Patios have put together a fantastic guide to aid anyone in any zone when picking out plants for a sustainable garden. An essential layer of an eco-friendly garden is the inclusion of plant material designed to provide food for pollinators. Without these hard-working creatures, much of our local produce would disappear. Annuals bloom profusely, but perennials, flowering shrubs and trees tend to be better alternatives, as they require less watering and care and won't have to be replaced year after year. When planned properly, a garden can have a succession of blooms for the majority of spring through fall. Check out all of their great tips at Pools Spas Patios.
The Renovation Diaries are a collaboration with our community in which we feature your step by step renovation progress and provide monetary support towards getting it done in style. My plumber came back to install the gas line, and ended up reevaluating his original plan. While things inched along in the kitchen, I turned my attention to the dining room. Last week Gregg, my contractor, installed some new molding around the panels that flank the fireplace. This week, after patching the nail holes and caulking the new moulding, I painted the paneling and the rest of the dining room trim a bright white - Benjamin Moore's 'Super White' in pearl finish to be exact. With the floors refinished and most of the walls and trim painted, the dining room is starting to come together. There's another, potentially more serious problem with the fireplace: a crack running all the way across one of the marble side panels. Check out the full series and be sure to join us next week for installment #14 of Dan's Kitchen Renovation.
Our work took us to Pasadena yesterday when we spotted this giant glass partition. Used to separate a work station and a conference table area, the French doors allow light through while maintaining a sense of coziness. The doors were scored at an estate sale and work beautifully as a partition from the entryway area. The 'Wow factor' is unique because of the size and the vintage style of the French doors. For extra privacy, you could always apply contact paper to the middle area but we really like the airy quality of the current look.
