Hello AT,. I have a tap water purifer for my kitchen sink, and a shower head filter for my shower. Do you know of anything similar for the bathroom sink? i have a feeling the unclean water is what's causing my face to break out. We wonder how much people worry about their water in this town. Aside from filtering it to drink, we generally think it's pretty darn good. Tap mounted water filters are made to fit on to almost any faucet, including bathroom faucets. We believe that each tap mount even comes with special fittings to make sure that they suit multiple types of faucets. The real problem is that they are BIG. We have found listings for a few mini-tap filters - or travel filters, which we include below. The range is not great here and sink top models may be your best bet.
San Francisco reader Rhiannon recently sent in some photos of her city apartment, and while we're inspired by a lot of her choices, we're especially impressed with how she's made the best of the wall-to-wall carpeting so many renters have to deal with. Wall-to-wall is a necessary evil in many rentals, as it helps to reduce noise and can be a cheaper solution for landlords than maintaining hardwood floors. Rhiannon has made a few wise and wonderful choices that really go a long way towards making that potentially drab carpet work.... Part of the problem with a lot of rental wall-to-wall carpet is the drab light it casts. Landlords choose neutral taupes and grays because they hide stains, but they also can look murky. Rhiannon's bright accents-the blue pouf, the quilt, the blanket draped over a chair, and even the fresh flowers-provide pops of color to brighten up the room. Rhiannon's dramatic artwork draws the eye up from the floor, distracting from the carpet and any little stains and flaws that might be left over from previous renters. Layering area rugs over the carpet is perhaps the most efficient way to reduce the effect of unappealing wall-to-wall. The black and white pattern here is a great contrast with Rhiannon's blues, and its bold statement makes the blah carpet almost disappear.
When we were young, we would pore over every issue of our mother's subscription to Metropolitan Home. While we loved closely examining each page, our main fascination was always the countless living rooms featured and, in particular, the coffee tables. What was placed on top of them seemed as important as the table itself. Were they covered in books? Did candles or candy trays sit on top? The possibilities were endless. In our continued coffee table top fascination, we ask.....

As many of you know, living in a studio in an expensive city requires ingenuity. We were delighted to learn that one of our clients, Paul Irish, employed the 'Use what you have' principle so creatively. While waiting for his permanent desktop solution, he transformed his unused coffee table into his temporary desktop. It didn't stop there.... When his desktop arrived, he shifted the coffee table into shelf service, installing the table upside down above a doorway to give him some much needed storage.

Carol and Fred's modern home is living proof that green style can be sleek - we've combed through their resource lists for some good modern sources. As an architect/engineer couple, they've got the knowledge and background to make smart choices about what they buy, and their LEED Platinum home in Wisconsin has earned recognition as the 2010 'Future Landmark for Innovative New Design' from the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation. Fred and Carol used a ton of good green resources and building materials in the creation of their LEED platinum home, and they've shared a lot of their knowledge in their house tour on Re-Nest.
It picks up the radio waves with human contact! Check out a video of it in action after the jump! Designer Florian Kräutli embedded conductive threads into the design of the rug that utilize someone walking on top of it as an antenna for radio reception. This would be great fun to play with on your own, but we're guessing it might be a little offputting to others trying to use the same space, although we're totally curious as to what happens when your pets run through your room on it! Even if we don't necessitate one in our own home, we still think it's a fabulous design and execution!
